Project Overview
The St. Catharines Collegiate High School project was a comprehensive endeavor for the District School Board of Niagara (DSBN). This was our 5th project for the District School Board of Niagara and underscores our dedication to delivering state-of-the-art sports facilities, combining meticulous construction, high-quality materials, and expert installation to create an exceptional sportsfield for high school sports and the community in the Niagara Region.

Scope of Work
Our team lead the project and provided general contracting, construction, and installation services, which included:
- Removal of Existing Natural Grass Field: The project began with the removal of the existing natural grass field to prepare for the new synthetic turf.
- Construction of Dynamic Aggregate Base: We established a solid base foundation, which is essential for the durability and performance of the new Sportsfield and Running track.
- Installation of Synthetic Turf Field: A multi-purpose sportsfield, with a performance shock pad and infill for optimal playability and safety. This included a custom center field and end zone logos and precise field lines to accommodate Football, Cross-Soccer and Field hockey.
- Running Track and High Jump Surfacing: A four-lane running track and high jump surface to enhance the athletic facilities.
- Sports Field Lighting: LED sports field lighting to ensure excellent visibility for evening events.
- Bleacher Seating Custom bleacher seating for 300 spectators and players’ benches ensured spectator and player comfort.
- Perimeter Fencing: New perimeter fencing and gates were installed around the field.
- Field Amenities: New football goal posts, soccer nets, lacrosse nets, basketball systems and scoreboard were added to complete the sportsfield.
Supplier / Partner Contributions
This project was a collaborative effort, and we partnered with key suppliers and contractor partners to bring it to completion:
- Brock Aggregates of the G and L Group: Supplied aggregate materials necessary for constructing the base of the sportsfield.
- Burlington Paving Co. Ltd: Contractor partner- completed paving and concrete curbs, including asphalt paving for the base of the running track, high jump area, walkways, bleacher pad, and curbs.
- Carpell Surfaces: Track Surface Contractor- completed the synthetic track surface and lines, ensuring a high-quality running track.
- CRM of Canada: Provided rubber infill, which is crucial for the safety and performance of the synthetic turf.
- Draglam Waste and Recycling of the G and L Group: Supplier for waste disposal throughout the project to facilitate a clean and safe construction site.
- GK Technical Assistance: Provided construction drawings and shop drawings for the layout of the synthetic turf field.
- GWS Logistics: Managed all the freight and logistics, ensuring that all materials and equipment arrived on time.
- Harkav Security: Provided site security to protect the construction site and materials.
- Herc Rentals: Supplier of rental equipment necessary for various construction tasks.
- Hutcheson Sand and Gravel: Supplier for sand infill used in the turf installation to improve stability and drainage.
- Paul S. Leskew & Associates Inc: Supplied and installed the custom Nevco scoreboard and equipment.
- Schmitz Foam Products: Manufacturer of the performance pad, adding an extra layer of safety and performance to the synthetic turf field.
- Sentry Electric Inc: Contractor partner – Supplied and installed all electrical services and Musco sports lighting, ensuring the field is well-lit for evening use.
- SporTurf: Manufacturer of the high-quality synthetic turf that forms the playing surface of the field. The SporTurf Gamechanger 45m was selected to ensure quality and performance of the field.
- Sport Systems Canada Inc: Contractor partner – Manufacturer and installation of 5-tier bleacher system and players benches, ensuring comfortable seating for 300 spectators. Also supplied the outdoor heavy duty Basketball system and NCAA and NFHS compliant Professional Lacrosse Goals.
- Sportsfield Specialties: Manufacturer of site furnishings, including the football goal system, pads and soccer nets.
- Titan Environmental Containment Ltd: Supplier of drainage materials, including Multi-Flow products and filter cloth tarp, to promote proper water management on the field and help with stabilization.
- TK Data Services: Provided GPS technical services for construction equipment.
- Utility Marx Inc: Conducted private utility location services to ensure safe excavation during the construction phase.
Conclusion
The completion of the St. Catharines Collegiate Sports field marked another significant achievement for Worldwide Turf Inc. We are proud to have delivered a facility that meets the highest standards of quality and performance. This project not only enhances the school’s athletic capabilities but also provides a versatile space for various sports and community activities.
